2A Updates and Stuff

Hey folks, the Swamp Fox here. I asked Paulie, about an idea I had, and he liked it. I will start posting on a monthly basis an article on the Second Amendment. Mostly from the internet, and the NRA’s two magazines American Rifleman (AR), and America’s First Freedom (AFF), I will be including a couple of armed citizen stories, the Freedom Index, some new gear, new guns, and maybe what the antis are up to, and maybe some other tidbits I find interesting, along with what ever laws may seem relevant to our Second Amendment rights. I am a bit late on this the first installment, but will try to be on top of things in future posting this column, as it were. If anyone has any ideas on what to call this column please don’t hesitate to volunteer them. Now without further ado here is my first regular feature, hope you all enjoy it. Thanks.

Starting with the Freedom Index, which is a number that represents the health of our rights, both firearm and civil and whether they took a hit or advanced, this comes from America’s First Freedom (AFF). This month our Freedom Index stands at 80, the hits it took are, In Kansas where RTC has taken effect the city of Manhattan has decided to restrict carry in certain area, it now must display signs showing they are not allowed, and anit gun Sen. Hillary Clinton has announced for President in 2008, now we will have to hear again how she used to hunt duck as a kid. It got an advance when, Georgia lawmakers introduced S.B. 43 that would allow it’s citizens to leave their firearms in their while at work, and VA voted to reject a bill to close the so called “gun show loophole” which was written by anti gun legislators and intended to end gunshows and more tightly regulate the private sale of guns in that state.

Armed Citizen: Raymond Hill’s 12 year old daughter woke him with startling news, 2 people were trying to break in their home. Mr. Hill loaded a .40 cal handgun and went downstairs where he saw the 2 suspects removing a screen from the window. They continued in their attempt to break in and Mr. Hill shot and killed one, the other was caught trying to flee on a bicycle. Las Vegas Review-Journal 1/24/07
Phillip Mendoza, 22, was only concerned with the safety of his mother and nephew when 6 armed men invaded their home Mendoza snuck into the bedroom retrieved and a shotgun. He said “I knew they had my mom with a gun and my nephew”. One of the invaders kicked in the bedroom door and Mr. Mendoza fired a load of buckshot to critically wound the suspect. Another appeared in the doorway; Mr. Mendoza fired again killing him. The other intruders and the wounded suspect fled, two were apprehended.
The Tucson Citizen 1/4/07. Both from AFF.

The US is pushing foreign governments to allow pilots who have completed the TSA armed pilot program to carry gun when they fly overseas. As it is now the thousands of pilots certified in the 4 year old program to carry firearms on domestic flights can not carry them when the fly to other countries. Some countries even prohibit armed air marshals on flights to their countries. As Conan Bruce told USA Today “It’s obvious that there’s a threat internationally, we want to work towards having them (armed pilots) be able to perform their duties on international flights.”
Ray Nagin and the New Orleans Police Superintendent have been found in contempt of court for failing to provide disclosure and answers to the whereabouts of firearms confiscated from law abiding citizens in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Guns: First up rifle of the year, the Tika T3 Tactical bolt action in .223 Rem. a nice varmint rifle exacting tolerances, with synthetic stock, adjustable check piece and butt spacers, stout heat shedding barrel cropped to 20”, full length Picatinny rail, over sized bolt handle, and five round detachable magazine.
Shotgun of the year, Benelli Cordoba 20 ga. Synthetic ComforTech stock which soaks up recoil, and Thech-noGel buttpad and check piece make the rest less burdensome. Add the extended CiroCholes and a cryogenically treated overbored barrel make it a sweet patterning soft shooter.
Handgun of the year is the Springfield’s Enhanced Micro Pistol (EMP), miniature version of the venerable 1911, probably the only gun able to be called an icon other then Samuel Colt’s Single Action Army revolver. From “America’s Oldest Name In Firearms” isn’t just another small 1911 style pistol, but is a frame specific 9X19 MM or .40 cal platform designed extensively redesigned, and requiring 15 parts to be newly configured. It tucks neatly out of sight and is only 26 ounces measures 6 ½ inches in length. It is a nine plus one capacity in 9 MM fits small hands.
From AR April 2007.

In August on Versus, formerly the Outdoor Living Network (OLN) Winchester legends will debut. Featuring worldwide locations, conservation, and personalities of legend, it will take viewers to some of the most spectacular hunting locations in the world.
SiGARMS Academy is adding a survival school to its itinerary focus is on water, finding, purifying, and storage, along with food preparation, procurement, and storage, shelter, and fire building, emergency signaling and other skills one would need in the wild to survive. It is taught by Adam Painchaulda graduate of the US Army Ranger School and the US Air Force survival school, so I think he would be able to teach one about surviving in almost any situation.

Next month I will try to have a little more in the post, this moth I was just kind of busy at work and family, there are other things from this month I will try to include next time I post a Second Amendment update. The Swamp Fox
