Hey, folks, sorry I haven’t had a Second Amendment update in a while, but my computer crashed, and I lost all my info. So, I had to get a new one and have just been messing around with it. But, I am back and up to speed. This is the next installment of my on going post about 2A (Second Amendment), with all the things I had before, and maybe if I am lucky I will be able to get a few new things in also, but I don’t think this issue. Anyway on to the first item Armed Citizen, which for those just joining us is a couple of news items, you won’t see in the Big Media.
From Jackson Miss. 3/5/07, The Clarion Ledger, cashier Theresa Stuckey sold a woman groceries, and the next thing she knew the woman was outside pleading for her life. “She was screaming ‘Help, he’s trying to kill me!’ She was rolling on the ground, trying to get away, but he kept stabbing her” Terrified onlookers yelled at the man, and honked their horns. Ignoring the crowd the rampaging man poured gasoline on the woman and attempted to set her ablaze, but a passerby entered the scene armed with more then a car horn. According to witnesses the Good Samaritan drew a gun and told the man “Stop, or I’m going to shoot! And, if you run I’m going to kill you.” Police say the heroic man held the suspect until they arrived; however, he left before anyone got his name. The victim was listed in good condition at the hospital.
Next up, Police say to brave brothers with concealed carry permits quashed an apparent road rage incident. It began when a man was rear ended and started yelling at the occupants of the other car. The argument escalated until he began shooting into the air. At that point passersby Paul and William Webber saw the man and quickly did a U turn. The Webbers un-holstered their guns, demanded the put his hands in the air and held him for police. “If you see people doing wrong and especially putting lives at danger” said William Webber 23, “it’s pretty clear what you have to do.” Memphis police Sgt. Robert Tutt called the brothers actions “Very responsible, very restrained” the Commercial Appeal, Memphis, Tenn. 3/7/07.
Also, Joshua Nicholson and his roommate were allowing Sarah Enkler and her two children to stay with them while she fled an abusive husband. Late one evening, Nicholson was jolted awake by the sound of someone breaking in through his back door. Police say he retrieved his .380 caliber pistol and walked down the hallway. When Nicholson saw the suspect entering the house he fired a shot causing the man to flee. The suspected invader, Enkler’s husband, was arrested after seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. The Morning News, Springdale, Ark. 3/27/07.
The freedom index this month stands at 79, after taking a hit and dropping last month. Due in part because of the thousands of families and freedom loving Americans who gathered in St Louis for NRA convention in a celebration of Patriotism, Freedom, and our Right to Keep and Bear Arms. However, Freedom took a hit this month when the residents of Nashboro Village, a Nahsville, Tenn. Neighborhood received a letter from the homeowners association indicating that guns are not allowed in the neighborhood. At press time the property managers were working to revise the rule to allow guns but make it illegal to fire those guns. Also, it took a hit when U.S. Rep Henry Waxman recently introduced a so-called “lobbying reform” bill that would impede ordinary citizens’ absolute right to communicate with government officials.
However, Freedom got a lift. A federal appellate court ruled the Pentagon can continue its financial support of the national Boy Scouts Jamboree. Two Chicago religious leaders had sued the Penagon claiming the event should not receive public support because scouts are required to swear an oath of “duty to God.” Another lift was provided by New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson when he signed into law House Bill 588. Sponsored by state Rep. John Heaton, and backed by NRA, this legislation would allow Concealed Handgun License holdersto protect themselves in establishments that sell alcohol for off premises consumption which previously ran counter to the state’s Right To Carry law.
New gear this month, Ruger has come out in partnership with Hornady, again, based on their Model 77 (M77) in a new caliber the .375 Ruger for big game. The report in American Rifleman, on the “Hawkeye”, makes one think this is a quite fine weapon for medium to big game. the round is shorter then the .375 H&H which allows one to cycle the bolt without lifting one;s cheek from the comb.
In other news, Sen. Schumer wants to apply the RICO Act to firearms law, this would make it illegal for a grandfather to give his grandchild in another state a family heirloom rifle. It is also aimed at removing the protection against lawsuits against legal firearm manufacturers, dealers, and owners. This is S.77 so call your Sen. And tell them to vote against it. Although with Cardin and Mikulski, here in MD our chances of that are slim to none and Slim done left town

The FBI concluded a study on criminal assaults on Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) This was a fifteen year study titled “Violent Encounters: A Study of Felonioous Assualts on Our Nation’s Law Enforcement Officers” it studies the many issues affecting the safety of LEOs. It follows research reports from 1992 and 1997, in examining forty incidents involving 43 offenders, 13 of whom had gang affiliations and drug trafficking connections, and 50 officers. The offenders staid that of the myriad laws enacted by the Federal Government none deterred them from purchasing firearms. It also notes that: 97% of the handguns used to assault LEOs were obtained illegally. None of the rifles, shotguns, or handguns were obtained from a gun show or related activities. 18 of the 43 offenders in the study had been involved in a shootings before they feloniously assaulted a LEO.
Berks County Sheriff Barry J. Jowiak testified before the PA. House Judiciary Committee haring on crime, and violence and told them in no uncertain terms “Gun control does not reduce crime” he told them “In fact criminals prefer their victims to be unarmed.” He announced his opposition to a bill that woud restrict people to buying one handgun per month, and that the proposal to require citizens to notify police if their guns are stolen would punish honest citizens “I don’t think anyone who has guns checks on a daily basis to make sure they are all there”
Well, that‘s about it for this month I will continue to try and build on this a little more each month, and hopefully in the near future, and have a bit more length, and information. If anyone has any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to post them. Thanks for reading, and since I lost all my quotes I may have to recycle a few of them.
